Release Day Celebration: TANGLED TIDES by Karen Amanda Hooper

HAPPY RELEASE DAY TO KAREN AMANDA HOOPER!

Today is the release of TANGLED TIDES by a very very good friend and critique partner of mine, Karen Amanda Hooper. I had the pleasure of reading this book when it was still a manuscript in a word document. It's so good, and I knew the minute I clicked to the last page that it would be a hit. I remember when Karen submitted it to her publisher Rhemalda, and I remember being so confident that there was no answer they could possibly give her but YES.

Tell me you don't want to read this RIGHT NOW:

Yara Jones doesn’t believe in sea monsters—until she becomes one.

When a hurricane hits her island home and she wakes up with fins, Yara finds herself tangled up in an underwater world of mysterious merfolk and secretive selkies. Both sides believe Yara can save them by fulfilling a broken promise and opening the sealed gateway to their realm, but they are battling over how it should be done. The selkies want to take her life. The merfolk want something far more precious.

Treygan, the stormy-eyed merman who turned Yara mer, will stop at nothing and sacrifice everything to protect his people—until he falls for Yara. The tides turn as Yara fights to save herself, hundreds of sea creatures, and the merman who has her heart. She could lose her soul in the process—or she might open the gateway to a love that’s deeper than the oceans.

Young Adult fans of Mermaids, Selkies, Sirens and Gorgons will love this tale of the sacrifice one makes for genuine love. Love that could be lost at any moment to the ever-changing tides.

As you can see from the summary, there are FOUR different sea creatures involved in an underwater battle that's seriously epic. Karen, being the author, loves all the creatures equally. The rest of us have to choose one, though.

MY choice: SIREN.

Because I want to fly and because deep water freaks me out. In fact when my apocalypse dreams don't involve zombies, they involve tidal waves.

And if you're looking at the bird image and feeling confused, like hey wait, I thought sirens were another version of mermaids, then you're in for an awesome surprise. Because in the original siren myth, they were seductive bird-women who lured sailors with their singing. Karen's sirens are creepy and SEXY. And they have wings and are bird-like (they live in a nest!) true to the myth.

If you want to join in on the fun, there's a sweet contest going on. Check out the details at Karen’s blog.

Karen is giving away a signed copy of her book and some other sea creature themed prizes. To enter, join the underwater web war on Twitter. Tweet which sea creatures you’re rooting for and why. Include the hashtag #TangledTides and you could win.

Karen will be on Twitter all day celebrating and answering questions, so stop by and say hello! @Karen_Hooper

This is also a fun day for me because I did the art inside the book. The art is on the chapter pages and when the point of view switches.

All four monsters. The siren image isn't in the book.
It's exclusive to Karen's launch celebration!

Anyway, get off my blog, get on twitter, and join the celebration! Karen has a cheat sheet posted on her blog that runs down  the awesomeness of each creature. Go pick one and tweet!

CONGRATULATIONS, KAREN!!!
