Today my shirt says FANGTASIA

No, really. I bought a shirt at Hot Topic on Saturday that is like a t-shirt for the fictional vampire bar in the tv show True Blood (love that show! Love the Sookie Stackhouse books, too.) I also bought a Lady Gaga shirt. You know you're jealous.

Anyway, even after my outlining hiccup and having to delete almost an entire chapter that went astray because of writing without my outline, I did make my 14k word goal for last week during the last gasp of Sunday night. But I made myself sit down and write the rest of my outline. So now I have it, minus one climax thing I'm not sure how I want to twist.

Also, and this is so random, it's the first time I've been writing chapters numbered above 21. When I did YA, my chapters tended to be a little longer than they are now (which I now realize makes NO sense,) and since the wordcount was shorter, I only even broke 20 once (with this story, in fact). Now I write them a tad shorter (a la urban fantasy style) and since my wordcount is getting longer (please make it to 100k, pleasepleaseplease) only 4 chapters stand between me and chapter 30. That probably shouldn't excite me, but it does.

Lastly, I feel the need to tell you all that I slammed my hair in the car door this morning. And by that I mean, I was all sitting down in my seat and everything, and I pulled the door shut, and lo, my hair was caught in it, blown by a wayward breeze. Gah.

  1. Wow, 14K in one week! Congrats. I always have to try to whittle my chapters down because I have too many! I get up into the 50's. What I need is longer chapters. Maybe we can trade :)

  2. 14K in one week? I am impressed. Seriously impressed. I was happy with 2K. And cute shirts? I'll be over in the corner banging my head on the wall. :)

  3. 14k! That's awesome - congrats! My chapters are usually pretty short, 'cause I tend to switch up POVs quite a bit.

Here's hoping you have a great week this week, with lots of writing and no hair-in-car-door-slamming!

  4. The Sookie Stackhouse stories crack me up. It's so cool you got a Fangtasia shirt.
Congrats on the word count. Yipes about the hair!

  5. Yes, I'm totally jealous of your shirts. The last cool shirt I got was Guns N Roses. I realize that dates me. Or it would, if I hadn't bought it last year.

So sorry about your hair, darling. I've done that a million times. One of the hazards of having long hair.

I can't tell you how excited I am about your ms, though!! You're coming along so well, and you've gotten so far!!! I have no doubt you'll get the word count you want.

  6. Aubrie - We totally should trade. Then we'd both end up at a happy medium! It's the perfect solution ;)

Sarahjayne - 2k is an accomplishment, to be sure. Any wordcount at all is an accomplishment, as long as you're writing! Lol, I can't wait to wear the Lady Gaga shirt.

Talli - Thank you! :) I only switched pov in my first manuscript, and I did it often enough (and lots of time, I would punctuate the main narrative with just maybe 500-900 words in another pov) that I just lumped several of them into a chapter. I think your method makes total sense though, a pov for a chapter, right?

Tricia - I freaking love Sookie, on screen and in print! I was so excited when I saw the Fangtasia shirt. I literally said "I MUST have this shirt."

C - I would love to have a GnR shirt! I love GnR. I did get a Bon Jovi shirt at Wal*mart once. And I hope you're right. You are sort of a fortune-teller super lucky magical djinn lady, so ;) ... does your daughter really call you "lady"?

  7. 14k in one week? That's crazy! Either you're a genious or you have too much time on your hands;)

Congrats, and my condolences on your hair. I've done that too - it hurts like a mother...

  8. Alexandra - hah, I am not a genius, and I actually feel like I don't have enough time on my hands most of the time. But there's definitely something about ONLY having an hour one night, or two the next morning, that makes me write faster. Also, you've got the best first name in the universe, in my humble opinion ;)

  9. I'm glad to know about the Sookie Stackhouse books early enough to GET YOU ONE SIGNED in a couple weeks =)

OMG also, your hair??? Tell me it's ok, those beautiful long locks!!

    xoxoxo

  10. Wow, you've been very productive! Keep it up! I run into hiccups without an outline, too. Sometimes I really want that pantser freedom, but it just doesn't work for me. I need an outline!

I feel your pain with the hair-caught-in-door trauma! Long hair can be dangerous, lol. I've never read the Sookie Stackhouse books. I'll put them on my library list!
